National currency unit of Azerbaijan is Azerbaijani Manat, abbreviated as AZN.
1 Azerbaijani Manat (1 AZN) is 100 “qəpik”. Azerbaijani manat banknotes are issued in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 manat. Coins (qapik) are issued in denominations of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 and 50 qapik.
Azerbaijani manat is the only currency that is being used in Azerbaijan. Therefore, you have to exchange your money upon or before arrival either in the airport, train station or in the exchange offices and banks. Most exchange offices accept Euro, British Pound, Turkish Lira and Russian Ruble.
The import and export of local currency for non-residents is prohibited. The import of foreign currency is unlimited but must be declared upon arrival. The export of foreign currency is limited to US$10,000 or equivalent.
US Dollars, Pounds Sterling and Euros are the preferred currencies and can be exchanged at the airport, bureaux de change, all hotels, some restaurants and major banks. However, many local hotels, bureaux de change and restaurants will not accept dollar bills dated before 1992 or those which are torn or in any way disfigured. Travellers are advised to take banknotes in small denominations and change small amounts of money as required. Rates offered by banks and bureaux de change are unlikely to vary significantly.
The following goods may be imported into Azerbaijan by persons over 18 years of age without incurring customs duty:

Plants, animals and their products must be accompanied by the appropriate import certificate from the State Sanitary Service or State Veterinary Service.
